Blood Banks
A Blood Bank i.e., basically a blood transfusion service is both a supplier of blood products and a testing laboratory, hence the Quality Management System must include:
- Good medical practice
- Good manufacturing practice
- Good laboratory service.
The quality, safety and efficacy of the blood transfused is the result of quality management system being implemented at all the following steps in the process:
- Donor selection
- Blood collection
- Component preparation
- Storage , issue and transportation
- Contract testing, as applicable
Blood Banks can today aspire either for a basic Quality Management System like the NABH Standard developed specifically for Blood Banks.
